Kathy Walls, Master Level Clinical Intern

Kathy is a Clinical Intern completing her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at National Louis University.

Kathy understands that beginning therapy can be scary, so she uses empathy, compassion, humor, and collaboration to build a relationship and create a space where her clients feel comfortable communicating without boundaries. She uses a combination of Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Talk Therapy, Art, and Play Therapies to understand her clients’ concerns and experiences better and help them strengthen their journey.

She has a special interest in working with children, teenagers, and adults who are looking for help in handling anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, trauma, grief, relationships, and concerns about illnesses such as cancer and how the client and family are working through the illness. She knows that some clients need help finding their inner strengths and will help them learn tailored skills and tools to face their challenges and reach their goals with resilience and confidence. She will be there for you by your side every step of your journey.

Kathy has worked in the healthcare field for over 20 years and knows that clients want to be seen and heard, and she strives to be a supportive and steady resource. As a cancer survivor herself, she knows that support from family and friends has helped her get through the struggles she faced. She is passionate about helping others who are or who have gone through cancer and their families to understand better the journey, what to expect, and get the support of others who have gone through it. She has created two cancer support groups for patients and their families. Please call for more information.

Kathy listens while providing a warm and supportive environment for her clients, empowering them to express emotions and fears. She lets her clients tell their stories and concerns and will collaborate with them to reach the goals they would like to achieve. She enjoys watching and being a part of her client’s progress and success. When she is not working, she enjoys reading, keeping active, spending time with her husband, and keeping tabs on her two grown children and many grand pets.

Kathy is accepting new clients at the Lake in the Hills and Schaumburg locations. She can be reached at: kwalls@owenscounseling.com.
