Boundaries are protective barriers that people set to protect themselves from harm. Those boundaries can be physical boundaries, emotional boundaries and time boundaries to name a few. Boundaries are important for an individual’s mental health and wellbeing.
An example of a physical boundary could be someone not feeling comfortable receiving hugs from other people. An individual’s boundaries can be different, for different people in their life and for complete strangers. Boundaries are put in place by an individual to make them feel safe, confident, and in control.
Boundaries can be different for people, but respecting other’s boundaries are incredibly important. If we do not respect other’s boundaries, how can we expect them to respect our boundaries. If someone gets upset by your boundaries, they are not respecting your boundaries or you.
